By Dr S.H. Gary Chan | P-Sense is a company spin-off from a research group in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology led by Prof. Gary Chan from Computer Science Department. Our research group has years of experience in indoor positioning technology with academic recognition and commercial deployment experience. After collaborating with different property owners, we realize there are commercial demands of our research product. The most amazing part of our product is that it could locate everyone who walks into a shopping mall that installed our system. No Wi-Fi network connection and APP installation are required – it works as long as the Wi-Fi function is turned on in the owner’s smartphone.
Our indoor tracking technology provides mall owners and shop owners with insights and analytics to manage their facilities better. We offer a real-time traffic dashboard for mall owners that includes people counting, average dwell time, shopper trajectory and more. These insights are important for mall owners to make decisions in rent level, tenant management, layout design and more.
Being a startup entrepreneur in Hong Kong, our team has gained extensive exposure in the technology industry. We have gone through numerous successes and failures that inspired us about the importance of negotiation and motivated us to enhance our team bonding. It has been evidently challenging to overcome the HK people’s unwillingness to adapt to advanced technology, but as we are open to customers’ feedback, we have eventually made significant improvements in our products.
So far we have successfully built a closer partnership with some companies that have been running trials in their facilities including New World Development (Hong Kong K11), Hong Kong airport and the Link. In the near future, we plan to promote our system to 20 major shopping malls in Hong Kong, finish the installation by 2018. We are also targeting other Asian cities with long term. We believe good implementation always wins eventually.
*P-Sense will be exhibiting in the Startup Zone of HKTDC Electronics Fair (Spring) 2018.
