Older, Wiser, Better Connected: CARE Concierge is Here to Revolutionise and Elevate The Elder Care Industry

Kuala Lumpur, 22 August 2019 – As parents age, the burdens and challenges of caregiving often fall on family members less-than-adept at elder care. Dealing with not only the physical and mental stress of providing support, on top of the potential financial strain in leaving the workforce for more time at home, family members may be pressured into moving their parents into retirement homes – a decision that can impact the well-being of the elderly due to the stigma attached to conversations surrounding old-folks homes.

Since late 2017, local startup CARE Concierge has strived to challenge and elevate conventions around the elder care industry, firmly believing in the importance of having the elderly age-in-place and providing independence and peace-of-mind to family members, regardless of where they may be. By connecting skilled nurses, therapists, and caregivers with elders, the startup wants provide the support needed for them to age in the comfort of their own home, or any residence of their choice. CARE Concierge looks to provide the highest quality of life to those in their care, from fully independent elders to those needing palliative care.

“Research has shown that by 2030, 7% of Malaysians will be 65 years and older, classifying us as a country with an aging population. The elder care industry is in its nascent stages, and we foresee prominence in this area in the coming years. At CARE Concierge, we want to assist Malaysians with planning for their futures by providing our service to homes with elders needing assistance with post-hospitalisation recovery, health, and social care. Our aim is to help families live as full and independent lives as possible,” said Martin Yap, Co-founder and CEO of CARE Concierge.

More than on-site services, CARE Concierge also has a proprietary tech app, the CARE Concierge App that allows family members to keep track of their elders through a digital diary. Family members living overseas or on-the-go can see how their parents are doing at any point in time with inputs from our caregivers. This provides peace-of-mind even as they are away, given the ease-of-access to data highlighting their parents’ well-being.

With data tracking of health and vitals, medical experts can also better diagnose and treat patients where necessary. Irregularities tracked by the system can be immediately brought up to the relevant specialists for timely treatment, such as in the case of one such care patient found to have internal bleeding thanks to detection by the app, and assisted by the team of caregivers and CARE Managers for a full recovery.

“Our app ensures that our CARE Pros are better able to support the elders, with the necessary skillset to provide the care they need. With how easily accessible the app is, we want to leverage on technology to support families, providing them some respite from the day-to-day stresses of managing health and social care,” said Martin Yap.

Currently, CARE Concierge has over 1,200 registered CARE Pros – consisting of caregivers, nurses, and trained specialists such as physiotherapists, speech therapists, geriatricians and etc., with more than 300,000 hours offered on home care. Almost two years since the launch of its resort-like eldercare facility, The Mansion, the startup continues ramping up its offerings. Just in April of this year, CARE Concierge launched a daycare centre in Jaya One Selangor, and has partnered with Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS) to certify and provide accreditation to its CARE Pros.

CARE Concierge’s efforts and mission to take care of the elderly has also seen the startup recognised as a regional finalist in the JUMPSTARTER 2020 Global Pitch Competition hosted by Alibaba and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), and awarded SEA Startup Disruptor of the Year by Wild Digital 2019. These accolades acknowledge the startup’s passion and innovation in the elder care industry, and highlights Malaysia’s lead in this sector within the region.
