Dubai Exports (DE), the export development agency of Dubai Economy, recently participated in the 46th UAE National Day Reception. The event was organized by UAE Consulate General, Hong Kong on 6 December.
300 guests attended the reception including representatives from Consulates, Hong Kong Government, Business, Educational institutions, etc. Over Eight UAE enterprises were invited to have their booths in the event to promote their products and services. Dubai Exports, which set up its overseas trade office (OTO) in Hong Kong since August 2017, firstly appeared to present its role and distribute special gifts Chocodate™ sponsored by UAE food manufacturer – Notions Group.
Mr. Paul Chan Mo-po, Financial Secretary of Hong Kong SAR Government said in the opening “The UAE is Hong Kong’s largest export market in the Middle East and the 13th worldwide.” He continued that trade and collaboration between Hong Kong and UAE is foreseen to increase continuously, especially the Belt and Road Initiatives that drives a lot of new opportunities to business.
According to the figure of HK Census and Statistics Department, total exports from Hong Kong to UAE reached USD 4.7 billion in the first 9 months of 2017. Major export items included telecom equipment and parts, pearls, precious and semi-precious stones, engines and motors, non-electric, and parts. Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s imports from the UAE reached USD 3 billion from Jan-Sep 2017, Major import items included jewellery, pearls, precious and semi-precious stones, telecom equipment and parts.
Through the participation, advantages of Dubai’s products are well presented, and this also shows the ambition of Dubai Exports to expand network and business opportunities for UAE companies in Hong Kong and China market.
