CoCoon Pitch Semi-Final Spring 2015
Have you been keeping up with your 2015 New Year Resolution? Have you met your goals? On January 15, eight pitch teams made serious attempts to turn their business ideas into realities by competing in the CoCoon first Semi-Final Pitch Night in 2015. The teams presented their business ideas to three judges potential investors, co-founders, and customers.129 people were present representing different industries and backgrounds.
After their presentation, pitch teams worked hard to not only attract investments and mentorship, but also broadened their network through CoCoon. Until now, CoCoon’s vibrant startup community raised over 24M HKD in funding from investors they met in through CoCoon’s platform.
Participants attending Pitch Night receive three colors of CoCoon Investment Coins valued at HK$20,000, HK$30,000 and HK$50,000. Participant then use these coins to elect their favorite pitch teams, and teams who receive the largest investment are receive the “My Favorite Startup” award. Three winning teams are selected according to both judges’ and audiences’ preference and will then enter the Pitch Night Final in April.
We were delighted to have 3 Star Judges:
- Mr. Chris Lau, Director of Future Services, SmarTone, who holds over 20 years’ experiences in telecommunications products and services development.
- Dr. Dominic Chan, Founder of Decisive Consulting Limited, who founded Decisive Consulting Limited and co-founded Dark Horse Investment that focuses on early stage technology investment. He is an experienced entrepreneur and mentor.
- Mr. Philbert Fan, Partners, Director of Prima Capital Partners, who has extensive investment experience across a wide range of asset classes and geographies. He has a great interest in helping new startups in Asia succeed.
The eight pitching teams:
Team 1: Cafe X Technologies - Jack Sun and Henry Hu
Are you a coffee addict? I am. With the fully automated premium robotic coffee kiosk and mobile ordering app created by Café X, they will be able to serve my dream “cup of coffee” easily.
Team 2: Pin-world - Anuja Agarwal
How many times have you wanted to learn money-management skills earlier? Through interactive games, videos, puzzles, Pin-world creates a virtual universe for kids EARN and learn to SAVE, SPEND and SHARE.
Team 3: Hatchya - Keith Wu
Hatchya’s fun and interesting video, accompanied with light music, easily captures the audience’s attention. Hatchya provides consultancy services for innovators to bring their ideas to life.
Team 4: Uspace - Ilya Belikin
Want a chat at work? Uspace turns a work space into an interactive interface for co-workers to communicate.
Team 5: Wallhawk - Michael Bendy
Promoting the power of video, Michael created Wallhawk to help people create quality videos displaying their products/properties for sale or lease.
Team 6: C2 Retailytics - Wing Liao
We are in a data driven generation. C2 Retailytics helps luxury retailers collect and analyze important data used to improve their businesses.
Team 7: Yunnke - Perkins Ho
Yunnke helps boutique hotels with direct marketing and booking capabilities, while making them easily accessible online.
Team 8: Tuttee - Colin Tsang
Students in Hong Kong are familiar with public examination. Tuttee offers a massive online open mock to help teachers and students prepare for public examinations.
CoCoon Pitch Night was not only a night for pitch teams to present their ideas, but also a good chance for startups, investors, and potential customers to meet and connect.
The winning teams: Based on 1) overall pitch performance; 2) potential market of their services, and 3) the solution, Cafe X Technologies, Uspace, Yunnke were the winning teams of CoCoon Pitch Semi-Final 2015. They will advance to our Final round in April to compete for the ultimate prizes, which include cash prizes of 20,000, 10,000 and 5,000 HKD. Cafe X Technologies was also voted to be “My Favorite Startup”.
