China, June 13, 2018 | Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing arm of Alibaba Group announced earlier the renaming of its existing Zhangbei data center to Cloud Data Center for Beijing 2022. From this Beijing 2022 Cloud Data Center, Alibaba Cloud will use its Cloud Infrastructure and Services to help the Beijing 2022 Organising Committee deliver a green, inclusive, open and clean Olympic Winter Games.
Alibaba Cloud will build out an integrated Cloud technology and innovation platform for Beijing 2022. Along with other Alibaba Cloud global infrastructure, the Cloud Data Center for Beijing 2022 will provide a strong cloud computing capability to empower Alibaba Cloud Services to help realize IOC’s vision for a future Olympic Games – one that runs completely on the cloud. Alibaba Cloud features the ET Sports Brain which is a suite of cloud-based and AI-powered solutions that will also help to drive the digital transformation of the Olympic Games.
The collaboration comes as part of the partnership between Alibaba Group and the International Olympic Committee which began in January 2017 when the two parties signed a historic, long-term strategic agreement to transform the Olympic Games for the digital era. Alibaba is now serving as the official “Cloud Services” and “E-Commerce Platform Services” partner.
Simon HU, Senior Vice President of Alibaba Group and President of Alibaba Cloud said: “The theme of a green, inclusive, open and clean Olympic Winter Games resonates strongly with us at Alibaba Cloud. We believe true sustainability goes hand in hand with technological advances. Beijing 2022 will give us an opportunity to show the world how our technology is capable of driving the digital transformation of the Games, creating a more efficient and exciting event experience while bringing a minimal impact to the environment.”
The Beijing 2022 Cloud Data Center, located in Zhangbei, Hebei Province, is the most appropriate green partner for Beijing 2022. It was originally one of the first green data centers built by Alibaba Cloud in 2016. Alibaba’s engineers incorporated innovative technology with the adverse climate conditions, enabling the data center to enjoy weather-driven cooling for most of the year.
