Jumpstart Magazine launches ‘Jumpstart Kids,’ a summer program to spawn the next generation of young entrepreneurs

Jumpstart Magazine, Hong Kong’s first print publication dedicated to startups and SMEs, is launching a summer program to inspire entrepreneurship in local youth.

The hands-on program intended to inspire kids to launch a business and will guide kids (8-12 years) through every step of the startup launch process. They’ll learn both entrepreneurial and life skills such as creative brainstorming, blogging, budgeting, packaging and basic accounting. They’ll be given the freedom to explore, critique, implement ideas and experience the real-life highs and lows of startup life.

“There will be failure for sure,” says Yana Robbins, founder of Jumpstart Magazine and one of the co-founders of the program, “and the kids will learn to pick up and try again. They will know the meaning of ‘pivot’ by the end of the session, a popular phrase among entrepreneurs”.  She goes on to say “We don’t know what ideas they will come up with. They may end up baking, painting, or making videos. “We are excited to hear their ideas and support the process.”

Queenie Tan, the other Co-founder is a published parenting book author and a Montessori teacher of 16 years. Although Tan has been running a small-scale version of the program for her kids and their friends in the neighborhood during the holidays, the program will now be able to reach a larger audience. “Our goal is to give them the system, the tools and the support that they need so they can develop the resilience they’ll need to succeed,” said Tan.

Spots in the program are limited to 15 kids with a guaranteed five-to-one student-teacher ratio, with daily vegetarian lunches included. Jumpstart Kids has also teamed up with Chewswize.com, a healthy snack delivery startup in Hong Kong, to provide brain food for the young first-time founders.

At the end of the two weeks, the kids will have their names and photos published in an eBook on Amazon and also be featured in a Jumpstart Magazine article about the program.
