INFINITI LAB Hosts Hong Kong’s First Startup Weekend ‘Women in Tech’ Initiative

HONG KONG 26.04.17 – INFINITI welcomed 35 female entrepreneurs’ to the INFINITI LAB, for a ‘Women in Tech’, Techstars Startup Weekend.

The weekend program was aimed at supporting entrepreneurs as they developed business ideas and explored areas of opportunity in the field of technology and innovation. The “Women in Tech” event brought together budding entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures.

Beginning with Friday night pitches and continuing through brainstorming, business plan development, and basic prototype creation, the Techstars Startup Weekend culminated in Sunday night demonstrations and presentations.

Participants presented their pitch in front of judges Niamh Given, Head of Programs of NEST, Cristina Ventura, Chief Catalyst Officer of Lane Crawford Joyce Group, Erin Ford, Director of Partnerships Techstars and Sheelpa Patel, Senior Manager of INFINITI Global Transformation & Brand.

Sheelpa Patel, Senior Manager of INFINITI Global Transformation & Brand, said, “The goal was to encourage more female leaders to start a business, and to connect more women to the number of resources and mentors available in the Hong Kong community. It provided a platform to empower enterprising individuals to push the boundaries of the tech industry and receive the business support they need to bring innovative new products to market”.

This new event series marks the latest step in INFINITI’s support for entrepreneurs at every stage of their journey. The event marks the first of a series of Techstars Startup Weekends that will roll-out globally in the coming months.

Participants at the ‘Women in Tech’ Techstars Startup Weekend, formed teams at their first introduction, worked on their ideas over the course of the event, cumulating with three winners announced on the final day. They were Min[e]d a workplace chatbot solution to assist colleagues in project collaboration, Gift from Afar, a website that curates gifts ideas for last-minute purchasing and Intelligence Drive, a connected car solution that provides seamless payments for everyday travel items such as toll booths, parking and fuel.
