Hong Kong +: A Future City, a Better Self
Celebrating the diversity of Hong Kong and exploring how we can improve our city

[November 25, 2017, Hong Kong] WE Club, one of the largest cross-cultural communities and event platforms in Hong Kong, held a full-day event today called “Hong Kong+: A Future City, A Better Self” at Loft22 in California Tower, Central. The event, powered by Lan Kwai Fong Group, was about celebrating the diversity of Hong Kong and exploring how to improve our city.

Over 230 people from diverse backgrounds came to explore these ideas, listening to 13 inspirational speakers and participating in several of the 21 experiential workshops – an event format unseen in Hong Kong before.

The event hosted a broad range of speakers from different backgrounds and industries, such as Dr. Allan Zeman, Chairman, Lan Kwai Fong Group; Douglas Young, Founder, G.O.D.; Brandon Li, Travel Filmmaker and filmmaker of Hong Kong StrongDr. Brenda Alegre, Transwoman Lecturer, Hong Kong University; and Ethan Lin, CEO and Cofounder, Klook. These speakers shared their personal stories, vision, and what they see as the future opportunities and possibilities in our city.

Dr. Allan Zeman said, “There are many exciting possibilities for the future of Hong Kong. I believe Hong Kong will truly shine on the world stage if Hong Kong people combine their creativity and can-do spirit with the advancement of technology.”

Candy Tang, Co-founder of WE Club, said, “Hong Kong + is a milestone for WE Club. We’ve run over 160 cross-cultural events for thousands of young people in the past three years in Hong Kong. This has been an epic event about how we, together, can improve Hong Kong, the city we live in and love.”

The second part of the day, the HK+ Experience Hunt, was filled with 21 experiential workshops, guiding participants to try new things and engage differently with Hong Kong. These workshops spanned across art, fitness, comedy, architecture, mindfulness, cooking, fashion, comedy and performance. 14 teams of attendees went to hunt new experiences in Hong Kong to know the city better, learn new things, and keep exploring.

Haley Meng, Co-Founder of WE Club, said, “Hong Kong+ is about being citizens of Hong Kong – engaged, passionate, and envisioning the future that we want to see for our city. I think many people will say that today we – an incredibly diverse, multi-generational, multi-cultural people – didn’t just envision, but started to create that future. I’m incredibly excited for what the future has to hold for Hong Kong and how WE Club can be part of that journey.”

 

WE Club, which stands for West meets East Club, celebrates its 3rd anniversary with their milestone event, Hong Kong +, with the support of Lan Kwai Fong Group and main sponsors Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation, Pax Global Technology, OPIM, Alpha Enterprise, and AIA Royal Family.
