Crafty Hong Kong at the #EtsyCraftParty

It was a lot of hammering and cord unwinding at the 2016 Hong Kong Etsy Craft Party organized by the Etsy Hong Kong team this past Saturday.

Tucked away in the industrial area of Lai Chi Kok on a quiet Saturday afternoon, over 35 makers and crafters aged 4 to 40+ gathered for an afternoon of creative craft making under the roof of KPC Yarn Studio.  From the dreamy handmade paper flowers photo booth made by Julie Siu of Paper Play Designs, the draw-your-heart-out card making station by illustrator Meghna Jhuremalani of Nocturnal Paper and artist Rachel Smith of Senselessart, tassel making led by textile designer Jemima Callaghan of Lost Property Hong Kong to up cycling vintage fabrics into covered buttons with clutch bag designer Vincci Ching of Heritage ReFashioned, there was much excitement in the room as newbies and pros rolled up their sleeves to make something fun and beautiful.  Everyone in the room was a part of a global celebration called the Etsy Craft Party, organized by individual teams of volunteers all over the world from Friday June 17 to Sunday June 19.

The Etsy’s Craft Party is an annual celebration of meeting and making, people around the world got together to explore their favourite creative pursuits and learn from fellow crafters. From cake baking to candle making, floral arrangement to card creating, this year’s events will celebrate the many ways people around the world express their creativity.

To name a few, this year, Etsy Craft Party took place in major cities across in the United States, Canada, Australia, UK, France, Holland and more.  As for our South East Asia region and Japan, there has been similar craft parties organized in Singapore, Kota Kemuning in Malaysia, Hong Kong and Tokyo in Japan.

The Hong Kong Etsy Craft Party was organized by the volunteers of the Etsy Hong Kong team who work to raise the profile of makers and crafters selling and buying on Etsy.  They are always looking for volunteers to help organize their next event and can be found on Facebook at or on instagram @etsyhkteam!
